I went into one of the most amazing places. I was looking at a flat in Carthona, at 10 storey 1930s apartment block on Watt Street. I didn’t particularly like the space and when the agent said “do you want to see the laundry area” I almost said “no” because…well…how good can a laundry area be. Well. How wrong was I. The entire top floor of the apartment building is empty, a shell with windows and trusses and a roof, about a five hundred square metre barn. Yes, there’s one washing machine and about thirty washing lines. It looks like the Great Depression. But there’s a 360 degree view of the city and balconies.
What it perfectly amazing is that this amazing space is completely unused except for laundry. There’s not a table up there, or a couch. How wonderfully odd.
